Princess Diana Movie In The Works

February 7th, 2012

Princess Diana has become such an iconic figure that it’s pretty surprising that Hollywood hasn’t made a movie after her yet. It’s about time.

Charlize Theron and Carey Mulligan are currently the top contenders for the role of Diana in a new film about her life based on the book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret by her former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe.

Diana was beloved by the entire world through her extravagant wedding, the birth of her sons, her divorce and finally her death. As the royal fervor continues following William and Kate’s wedding and hopefully the birth of their child (can’t come soon enough!), a movie about Diana is sure to win over the hearts of many.

Study Finds: Dating is Hard

February 7th, 2012

Guys overestimate women’s attraction to them? Who would have thought?

A new study from the Physiological Science journal shows that overconfident guys believe that all women are attracted to them, even when these women give them clues to the contrary. Women actually tend to be more attracted to guys who don’t think anyone is interested in them.

Mixed signals are a pretty basic part of dating, but it seems like too much confidence isn’t always the best thing. I guess those stereotypes about girls liking the quiet, sensitive types are true.

Although overconfidence and cockiness can certainly be a turn off to many women, the study shows that these men are more likely to actively pursue women and to win them over in the end. Based on how clueless we’ve proven to be in terms of dating, its wonder that anyone ends up together.

Midwest is Most Romantic Region, According to Redbox

February 7th, 2012

According to Redbox, the Midwest is the most romantic region in the country, with La Crosse, Wisconsin acting as the most romantic city. The study is based on the very accurate measure of how many people rent romantic comedies from Redbox, the company that provides all those movie rental boxes at grocery stores and drug stores.

Since when did renting romantic comedies from Redbox make someone romantic? From my experience, men don’t particularly like romantic comedies and renting movies like 27 Dresses and Notting Hill is usually reserved for lonely women and teenage girls. And even if these movies are rented for couples to watch, I don’t think popping in a DVD is what anyone would call a romantic gesture. Romance must really be dead.

M.I.A. Flips Off the American Public

February 6th, 2012

During Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime show, M.I.A. flashed the middle finger, a move that surprisingly went uncensored.

After the infamous Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction,” the American public was promised repeatedly that nothing like that would happen again. Sure, a lewd hand gesture is less severe than nudity but what ever happened to the three second delay, just in case?

I didn’t even notice the gesture, but I’m sure M.I.A. was probably trying to ruffle a few feathers and make some kind of statement. Does she look cooler because of it? Absolutely not.

Living Alone is More Common Than Ever Before

February 6th, 2012

Living alone in America is more common today than it’s ever been. About 40 percent of households include only one person, which accounts for 32 million people.

Texts, Skype and online messaging give us the illusion of being with other people while still having the luxury of privacy and space. In fact, people who live alone, single people, usually have more free time to be social because they are not tied down by spouses or children.

Jack Nicholson Weighs in on the Super Bowl

February 6th, 2012

For some reason, in the world of celebrity, there’s a widely held notion that a celebrity can and should broadcast their opinion on everything, ranging from presidential candidates to perfumes.

When asked by paparazzi if he was attending the Super Bowl, Jack Nicholson responded “I’d rather drink bleach.” Many Americans would call those fighting words and its unclear why Nicholson, a guy with a very manly persona, would be against football and the NFL.

Regardless, if you were just dying to know Jack Nicholson’s opinion on the Super Bowl, there you have it.
